Glazoenov Vioolconcert in a, op. 82
Rimski-Korsakov Sheherazade, op. 35
Moussorgski takes us to the ‘bare mountain’ in the Caucusus where a genuine witches’ Sabbath is celebrated. Alexander Glazunov is a bridge between his nationalist inclined teacher Rimski-Korsakov and the more Western oriented Tchaikovsky. His violin concerto is consequently full of pathos and lyricism. Finally Rimsky-Korsakov himself has his turn with the famous tale of Scheherazade. Travel on the ship with Sinbad, listen to the tale of Prince Kalenderen, and join in a feast in Baghdad.
