Combattimento Consort
Kunst der Fuge
Combattimento Consort Amsterdam o.l.v. Jan Willem de Vriend
Bach Die Kunst der Fuge (arr. Jan Willem de Vriend)
Please note: in The Hague classics brochure: Haagse Klassieken a wrong date is given, namely 5 February. The concert is actually on 20 February. The Art of the Fugue is without any doubt one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most fascinating works. It represents a detailed study of the music theory of his time contained in a great many fugues on a single theme. But it is also music to be listened to, for it is while listening that you realise how Bach manages to transpose music theory into improbably beautiful music. Combattimento Consort has composed a modest instrumentation of this masterpiece. And whether the listener is a thorough connoisseur or an interested devotee, in both cases a special musical adventure is assured.
This concert is part of the Muziek Authentiek series. For those who enjoy listening to early music played on authentic instruments the Haagse Klassieken series has been a real joy. Season after season ensembles with a genuine love of early music have played scores as they probably sounded in the past. Familiar names like the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and Combattimento Consort are among them. Plenty of scope too is given to a real Hague ensemble, the New Dutch Academy specialising in 18th century music and performing in three concerts of music by Bach, Mozart and Haydn. We have put together two attractive series for you, three concerts in each, which also combine well to create a complete season of authentic music: Muziek Authentiek.
