Hans van Manen Kleines Requiem
For its jubilee year the Nederlands Dans Theater I in this revival presents an ode to two major founders of the group : Jiri Kylián and Hans van Manen. 'Symphony of Psalms' (1978), to the eponymous music of Stravinsky, is one of the jewels of Kylián's early years. 'Soldatenmis' (1980) is a powerful and timeless choreography for male dancers to music of Martinù. And finally there is 'Kleines Requiem' for seven dancers to the music of Górecki, seen by many as the highlight of Van Manen's oeuvre. To quote the New York Times : 'Symphony of Psalms' was an instant classic in 1978 and it remains a classic today.'
